" 'Nanotech will be cleaner, we won't invest in stupid companies. We'll only invest in good business plans with big returns.' That whole philosophy always falls by the wayside. ... You almost expect to give up and fall into bad habits and fall into the way we've always done things. ... We don't have much time if anyone wants to make anything different. ... You're really in the waning years already of being able to set this on a different path. ... If anyone is going to do it, it's right now. It's probably a lot of the people in this room. It's going to be this connection between industry, government and researchers who are going to be able to pull this off. So, right now is the time to (ask) how are we're going to use nanotech most effectively to really and truly change things and create a new age."

-- F. Mark Modzelewski, executive director of the NanoBusiness Alliance, speaking at NNI 2004
